In Collier County, the Museum of the Everglades (Everglades City, at the junction of SR 29 and U.S. 41; 941-695-0008), tells the human story of the Everglades region through exhibits, lectures and events; Everglades City itself offers the charm of old Florida, including restaurants serving gator and cooter (turtle).

In Naples, the 1895 Palm Cottage (137 12th Ave. S.; 941-261-8164) is now a house museum. It also serves as headquarters for the Collier County Historical Society. The Collier County Museum (3301 Tamiami Trail E.; 941-774-8476) tells the story of Collier's history. It includes a logging locomotive and a five-acre historical park with indigenous plants. Each November, the Old Florida Days Festival features historical reenactors, arts and crafts, music and dance. Nearby Marco Island also has its own historical museum (140 Waterway Dr.; 941-394-0487).
